Had a little fun today, Found a spot where the Drum and Sheephead were thick and with a little weight on them... Posted a few pics and will come back with more about the trip later. Ok getting back to my post, This trip was really an amazing one,
Fish finder was silent and blank all the way into my spot, Once there it was an occasional hit for small fish but nothing to get excited about so I baited up with a live shrimp and cast for a bottom feeder. waited waited and waited with no action, reeled in to find a mangled shrimp which I attributed to a crab, round 2 proved me wrong.... I got a tiny tiny nibble and then slack line, I started reeling in and hit a brick wall.....The line would not move either way so I pulled and the fight was on...... when I looked over the side as the fish neared the top I see a big swirl and the tell tale stripes.... a few min later about 6 lbs of Fish was swimming in the tank. It was repeat city with all 3 of us in the boat for the next Hour and 30 minutes. In between boating Drum and Sheepshead we practiced our cussing as lines were snapped and hooks were bent, and of course the one that got away in my case was a whopper, My guess is 25 lbs or better based on the width of the body I saw as he defiantly rolled away to freedom after snapping my line.....
Drum and Sheephead are all over the bay right now, Most action is centered around old Ocean springs and Biloxi Bay Bridge pilings, bottom fishing with a live shrimp and a slip weight. Being caught by the dozens from what I have seen the past 2 weeks, I am going tomorrow and will post pics of my catch hopefully tomorrow night.
