Need help with an outboard (115 Evinrude)

I picked up a little bass boat with a 115 evinrude on it and it starts up alright and runs ok, but when its idling in neutral it sputters and shuts off.

Any ideas why? Could it just be that its old and has been sitting for a while so it needs more running time? Or something else?

Thanks

have you changed the plugs ?

may just need a tune up

i know a mechanic that does all the work on my boat and is good and not bad on price

he just replaced my steering cable for $258 parts, labor and coming to the house - he had to pull them motor to do it - alot better than me doing it

scott bramblett of Scott'S Outboard Repair 251-459-1811

usually he can get to it in about a week

i had him change my thermostats and waterpump last year for a couple of hundred

Thanks for the ideas... The plugs are new...

The issue now is that it also won't even start up at all when its actually in the water. When I have the hose hooked up to it I can get it to start up and as long as its not just sitting in neutral it usually stays running. But in the water it won't do anything.

i wonder if its something to do with the fuel line - have the checked the pick tube in the thank

my boat sits a lot different in the water than on the trailer - may be something with the tube

just an idea

process of elimination: drain fuel system and carbs, check for trash, check each fuel line connection for seal ( bulb sould pump up and stay firm ) Check fuel filter for trash or water. only then think about carb kit. nothin is better than a repair manual trouble shooting guide
