Where to go.

I've heard of people catching stripers in the gulf but is it just a stroke of luck to actually hook into one here.
If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

(New to the board)

I have not heard anything as far as Stripers go. When I was younger, my brother and I would catch a few here and there (12" - 20") in a seine off of the beach in Fountainebleu in Ocean Springs. I believe using a seine is illegal nowadays!

Probably about 10 years ago, there was an initiative of sorts to introduce/re-introduce the Striper (or a hybrid) into the local waters. May have been via the USM Gulf Coast Research Center in Ocean Springs? If I remember correctly, it was "illegal" back then to keep them because of the introduction. Who knows now? I have not heard of anyone catching any, so they seem to be under the radar on the coast by my account. The only way I have caught them with rod and reel was by trolling, but that was on the east coast. Helluva fight, but was not much fun, IMO. I like catching by baitcasting.

I would check up on the limit, though, just to be sure. If you find out about the limit and/or someone catching them, let us know. Would like to know how/where to catch them!

there are a few stripers caught around fort bayou and the popps ferry causeway,  But they are usually smaller fish (under a pound)  and far and few between.   I have never seen in writing what the size and catch limits are,  I would assume they are the same or very similiar to other bass limits which are 12 inches and a limit of 10 in most areas of Mississippi.  I also know that many are tagged and must be reported to wildlife and fisheries when caught, with size and location info.    I have only seen 2 caught this year  one back in april and one two weeks ago.
